Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment

What is the WPCA?

The WPCA stands for Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment factor. As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Randolph EMC provides electricity to you at cost. Each year, our budget and rates are based on our best projections of what we expect to pay for electricity in the wholesale market and what our projected kilowatt-hour (kWh) sales will be for the year. The WPCA reflects the increases or decreases in the actual cost of electricity Randolph EMC purchases from its wholesale power supplier for distribution to its members.

The cooperative reaps no additional benefits from the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment; it is simply a method of managing fluctuations in the wholesale cost of power. The WPCA is subject to change during the year to adjust when projected power costs and actual power costs vary. The wholesale power cost adjustment clause has been in effect in all of REMC's rates since 2002, and is a common practice among cooperatives nationwide.
